1. Evaluate the Year
Reflect upon how your business did over the last 12 months. This will help you make a plan for the New Year. What were your high points? What were your failures?
Taking an honest assessment of your business helps you to see what improvements you can make.
- For goals achieved: celebrate and acknowledge those that you’ve met. Take note of what worked, to have a better idea of what you’ll continue for the New Year.
- For goals not achieved: analyze and understand what needs to be done or what to avoid next year.
2. Look for Savings
Find for ways to cut costs, no matter how successful your business had been. Take advantage of special deals that you can grab. Be on the look-out for post-Christmas sales, deals, or discounts that would be relevant for your business. For instance, purchase a new printer or a file cabinet when those items are on sale.
3. Research
Take stock of the market and in the industry you are in. Determine how your competitors have performed. Identify what would create an impact for the upcoming year and what offers you can provide to your clients.
4. Organize and De-clutter
Start the year with a clean and organized workspace – this includes your digital space as well. Doing this will certainly help you start the year off well.
5. Stay Positive
Don’t allow negative thoughts consume your mind. Despite market or economic uncertainty, or failed business projects, remain optimistic that the New Year will be fruitful for your business. Focus on the new opportunities and success that you will be experiencing.
6. Make a “What’s New” List
List everything you need to tackle, your plans, and even your vacation schedule for 2015. Determine what you are going to do and what support you’ll need. If you want to target a new market or expand your business, then write it down in your “What’s New” plan.
