1. Have a grand re-opening

Make a big impression with the people in the community. It may sound weird, but it creates a good impression, attracts customers and sets your image for the best.

If you’re doing this, make it as big a deal as possible. Serve refreshments; provide cocktails, door prizes, entertainment and re-opening perks for customers who drop by. This will put your business at the top of people’s minds.

2. Create memorable signage

Increase your store visibility and direct customers into your store. Traditional signage can still make your business stand out. Get your name and image for people to see.

Make your window an invitation for passerby’s. It should be able to tell a story and peak a customer’s curiosity. It should encourage impulse purchases.

5. Offer deals and sales

Hard-to-resist offers and sales that come with a sense of urgency make customers more likely to visit your store. Customers tend to make a purchase if they’ll get the most for their money.

Try to promote your deals through your social channels to bring in new customers. Alternatively, if you have a database of customers, send an email newsletter to inform them of your promotions and sale events.  Text messages for your VIP customers.

6. Get involved in the community.

Getting foot traffic is not always aimed at selling your product or service. Being part of the community and bringing good will are both powerful weapons to build foot traffic.

You can either host a workshop; take part in charity or fundraising events, or do both. Don’t forget to promote events that you are taking part in. Also mention that part of your sales profit even goes to a designated charity. It makes people feel good about spending.

7. Utilize your online presence

Customers tend to do an online search before making a purchase, so don’t forget to optimize your online presence.

Make sure your business is active on social media sites. It lets you connect to your customers and informs them of your offerings. You can also use social media to promote your events or offer store specials to your social media followers. Additionally, it increases the likelihood of people wanting to shop at your business.

8. Make your business newsworthy

Do something that will create news. Foot traffic is not just a one-day event, so you have to make news to grab attention and drive future traffic.

It is great to leverage media when possible. If you can invite a newspaper writer, a blogger or a television personality that can broadcast your business events, then that’s even better.
